A provision of the Affordable Care Act, initiated in 2010, allows children to remain on their parents’ insurance until age 26. Fearing the confidential information will be listed on insurance claims that are sent to the primary insurance holder, many adult children avoid treatment for more private issues, such as sexual or mental health.
